El impacto de la genómica y metagenómica es de tal magnitud que revolucionarán las ciencias ecológicas, dando origen, junto con la Ecología Molecular, a una Nueva Ecología, con preguntas y metodologías diferentes a las abordadas por la ecología clásica. Estas nuevas metodologías abren la puerta a la exploración de nuevas aproximaciones al estudio de las comunidades microbianas, pues permiten el análisis simultáneo de la caracterización taxonómica de las especies contenidas en la comunidad y las funciones que pueden desempeñar. Aquí revisamos algunos de los avances de esta Nueva Ecología, describiendo el potencial que puede alcanzar si se usa junto con otras disciplinas. En general, nos permite analizar comunidades microbianas naturales, incluyendo organismos que escapan a nuestras posibilidades de cultivo en el laboratorio. Asimismo, brinda información sobre la diversidad y estructura trófica de las comunidades al tiempo que permite ligarlas con las funciones ecológicas que llevan a cabo en el ciclo de nutrientes del ecosistema que las contiene. Éste representa un salto enorme para resolver cómo es que cambian los organismos a lo largo del tiempo en respuesta a su entorno ecológico, mientras que permite analizar a una escala más fina cómo es que el entorno ecológico afecta los patrones evolutivos dentro de los linajes filogenéticos contenidos en las comunidades. Finalmente, esbozamos nuestra perspectiva sobre el futuro de la Nueva Ecología. Se espera que, a consecuencia del cambio climático, cultivos como el café (Coffea arabica L.), maíz (Zea mays) y frijol (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) sean menos productivos en América Central. Esto perjudicará la economía regional y los medios de vida de los pequeños productores, quienes dependen de estos cultivos para su seguridad alimentaria y bienestar. Es necesario entender cómo el cambio climático está afectando a los pequeños productores agrícolas en Guatemala para promover medidas que permitan enfrentar estos cambios. Objetivo. El objetivo de este trabajo fue caracterizar dos sistemas agrícolas de pequeña escala guatemaltecos, documentar cómo los pequeños productores perciben los impactos del cambio climático e identificar los esfuerzos de adaptación realizados. Materiales y métodos. Se realizaron encuestas estructuradas en hogares productores de café o granos básicos en los paisajes de Acatenango y Chiquimula, vulnerables al cambio climático, entre junio y julio de 2014. La investigación recogió las percepciones de los productores sobre cambios en temperatura y lluvia, los impactos reportados como consecuencia de dichos cambios y las acciones implementadas en las fincas a modo de respuesta. Resultados. Los resultados indicaron que el 95 % de los encuestados percibió cambios en el clima en la última década y el 81 % consideró que estos cambios afectaron negativamente su producción. El 41 % de los productores implementaron prácticas para adaptarse a los cambios percibidos, en mayor medida aquellos que producen café. Las prácticas de adaptación implementadas en las fincas difirieron entre paisajes, cultivos y cambio percibido, siendo la más utilizada la siembra de árboles para amortiguar los efectos del incremento de temperatura. Conclusión. Para lograr una mayor respuesta adaptativa de los pequeños productores y para promover el uso de prácticas que incrementen su resiliencia, es necesario incrementar el apoyo técnico, financiero y político orientado a facilitar la adaptación de los pequeños productores ante el cambio climático. Se obtuvo harina de Loricaria sp. de nutritiva composiciónquímica proximal: proteína (37.36 ± 2.43 %), grasa (23.37 ± 1.22 %), ceniza (26.56 ± 2.01 %) y humedad(6.89 ± 0.41%); y excelente calidad, pues el contenido de amoniaco libre (14.38 ± 0.72 mg/100g) y el Índicede Peróxidos (6.91 ± 0.46 mEq O2/kg de aceite extraído de la harina) fueron menores al máximo permisible. Population abundance in three zones with different altitudes decreased drastically during the dry season. Sex proportions showed that the number of males was always higher than the number of females. Home range was not statistically different between the three analyzed areas. Our results suggest that the presence and/or abundance of plants may be one of the most important in regulating the population this species. In addition our study suggests the hypothesis that females of Mus musculus are more sensitive tha males to the adverse climatic conditions in the Lachay National Reserve during dry season. The methodology followed in this study is that proposed in the Zurich-Montpellier school (BRAUN-BLANQUET, 1979). The profile of vegetation includs plant-communities of the jungle-type which are pluri-stratified on Ecuatorial and sub-Andean life zones and plantcommunities with a single stratification (upper Paramo belt). Se evaluaron dos tratamientos de desinfección in vitro con variaciones en la concentración del Ca(ClO)2 2,5% y 5,0% (i.a 75%), tres tratamientos para la multiplicación in vitro del material con diferentes reguladores de crecimiento y concentración de sales MS (1962), y seis tratamientos para el enraizamiento in vitro con diversos reguladores de crecimiento y gelificantes.  Se determinó que la desinfección con 2,5% de Ca(ClO)2 fue la mejor para el establecimiento in vitro; el mejor medio de cultivo para la micropropagación del material fue el M1, compuesto por sales MS(1962) al 100%, sacarosa al 3%, phytagel® 1,8g/L, 0,5mg/L de AG3, 0,25mg/L de BAP y 2,0 mg/L de PaCa, el cual presentó el mejor balance entre el número promedio de brotación/explante y el número promedio de entrenudos/explante, sin formación excesiva de callo, mientras que el medio de cultivo E5, constituido por sales MS(1962) al 100%, agar 6,0g/L y sacarosa al 3%, sin reguladores del crecimiento y el medio de cultivo E6, que incluía las sales MS(1962) al 100%, agar 8,0g/L y sacarosa al 3%, sin reguladores del crecimiento, mostraron el periodo más corto para la formación de raíces, el mayor número promedio de raíces y la mayor longitud promedio de raíz y tallo. Analizamos la distribución espacial, el uso del hábitat (nicho espacial), patrones de actividad (nicho temporal) y la dieta (nicho trófico) de estos reptiles, con el objetivo de identificar las principales diferencias que permitirían la división en el uso de los recursos. Estas especies mostraron preferencias por algunos hábitats, a excepción de Microlophus peruvianus, la lagartija de los arenales M. theresiae y la lagartija de los gramadales M. thoracius icae. Las especies mostraron preferencias por algunos hábitats, a excepción de Microlophus peruvianus que estuvo presente en todos los hábitats. La actividad de los saurios se concentraron al medio día, a excepción de C. adspersa. La dieta de estos saurios esta compuesta principalmente por insectos. Los saurios diurnos en la RNP presentan diferencias en el nicho trófico, espacial y/o temporal que posibilitarían su coexistencia en simpatría.
