Las Escuelas Campesinas de Agroecología (ECAS), son una estrategia de Desarrollo Endógeno Sustentable (DES) “Para Vivir Bien” en los Andes Tulueños (Valle del Cauca). Este trabajo analiza los enfoques filosóficos, metodológicos y éticos políticos que orientaron la conformación de las ECAS en dos corregimientos del municipio de Tuluá. La metodología de trabajo se enmarcó en la Investigación Acción Participación (IAP) y en el enfoque Histórico Lógico Cultural (HLC). Las ECAS como estrategia de DES se convierten en espacios de resistencia a partir del rescate de la cultura, la historia, el territorio y el cuidado de los bienes naturales; desde la revalorización de los saberes locales y los contenidos históricos que han sido excluidos por el discurso dominante de Occidente. Los campesinos existen porque históricamente han manejo de manera sustentable los bienes naturales.

Limnocytherina is a genus conformed by 12 species; its distribution in the American continent is known to be exclusively on the North (neartics), but little is reported about its distribution from Mexico (transition zone) and Central America (Neotropics). Different sampling campaigns were undertaken in three crater lakes from the Axalapascos region in east-central Mexico, during 2008, 2009 and 2011. As a product of these campaings, the new species of Limnocytherina axalapasco was found, which displays some intraspecific variability among populations. In this study, we described the taxonomy, the habitat, the ecological preferences and the larval development of this new species. A total of 10 sediment samples (8 littoral, 2 deepest point) were collected from lakes Alchichica, La Preciosa and Quechulac. We found that L. axalapasco is closely related to two North American species: L. posterolimba and L. itasca as well as one Central American species L. royi comb. nov. With the inclusion of L. axalapasco and L. royi to the genus, the distribution of Limnocytherina is extended to Central America. The four most important distinguishing characters of this new species are: 1) valve surface and margins covered with small, spine-like projections; 2) most of the A1 setae with a highly developed setule at distal part, producing a bifurcate appearance; 3) the upper ramus on the hemipenis is elongated, and by far overpasses dorsal/distal margins, distal lobe is triangular and short, while the hook-like process is prominent, outward orientated, and overpassing the tip of the distal lobe; 4) the UR is moderately developed with seta f3 elongated and setae f1 and f2 short. Considering its ecological characteristics and larval development, L. axalapasco was preferably found in alkaline waters dominated by Cl- or HCO3- and Na+ or Mg2+, temperatures ranging between 19.1 to 20.3°C, and dissolved oxygen concentrations from 5 to 6.5mg/L. This species was abundant in deeper (~64m) areas of the saline Alchichica lake, where surface water displayed conductivity values of up to 2 250μS/cm, and the sand with low percentage of silt resulted the preferred substrate. Along with the description of L. axalapasco, we provide additional information on the hemipenis of L. itasca, L. royi and L. sanctipatricii, and we discuss on the Limnocytherina-type of hemipenis.

En la primera parte del ensayo, se estudió el comportamiento del peso de nódulos, peso fresco y peso seco de tres leguminosas (Crotalaria, Canavalia y Guandul) a utilizar como abonos verdes y su efecto sobre sistemas de producción maíz-leguminosas (maíz-caupí, maíz-soya, maíz-frijol). Las variables consideradas (rendimiento, rendimiento equivalente de maíz, ingreso neto y tasa de retorno marginal) mostraron el efecto positivo de esta práctica sobre esta forma de producción obteniéndose mejor respuesta de el sistema maíz-caupí. De los abonos verdes la crotalaria presentó el mejor efecto sobre los sistemas de producción. En la segunda parte del trabajo, se utilizó el sistema de producción de mejor comportamiento introduciendo al factor abono verde algunas modalidades de tratamiento, entre ellas efecto residual, adición de una segunda incorporación de los tres abonos verdes y efecto residual más la adición de abono químico. La consideración de las mismas variables usadas en la primera parte mostro mejores valores por la segunda incorporación de abono verde y la adición de abono químico en su orden, el efecto residual de los abonos permite obtener rendimientos superiores a los alcanzados por el testigo.This research was divided in two parts. The first studies the behavior of three legumes (Crotalaria, Canavalia and Cajanus) as green manure, measuring weight nodules, green weight matter and dry weight matter of them, so measured the effect on three production systems: Maize- cowpea, Maize- soybean and Maize-bean. The indicators (yield, equivalent maize yields, net income and marginal return rate) showed positive effect of green manure on this production systems too maize-cowpea system showed the best yields; Crotalaria was ,the best green manure. In second experimental stage maize- cowpea system was evaluated, using the same indicators and introducing new treatments related to green manure: its residual effects, addicional amounts of manure and residual effects helped with chemical fertilizers. There were found during this second stage betters yields from the production system maize- cowpea, as a result of a second addition of green manure and addition of chemical fertilizer in your order. The residual effects showed highest yields from its control.

Apunta a explicar las transformaciones que tenían lugar en la cuenca lechera cordobesa-santafesina en Argentina cuando se intensificaba la actividad agroindustrial bajo el liderazgo de la empresa cooperativa Sancor (Fábrica de Manteca Sancor Cooperativas Limitadas). Esta empresa promovía un modelo de incorporación de tecnologías de avanzada y en el despliegue de sus capacidades organizativas subyacían ciertos valores culturales vinculados al cooperativismo.This article presents the results and findings of an investigation based on primary sources. It reappraises the knowledge of temporally and spatially-situated historical processes. It seeks to explain the transformations that took place in the Argentine dairy region of Córdoba-Santa Fe at times when there was an intensification of agro-industrial activity under the leadership of the cooperative company Sancor (Sancor Butter Factory Cooperative Limited). This company promoted a model that consisted in incorporating advanced technologies. In the deployment of its organizational capabilities, there were certain underlying cooperativism related cultural values.

El lentisco (Pistacia lentiscus L., Anacardiaceae) es un arbusto esclerófilo de origen Oligocénico muy común en el Mediterráneo. Las condiciones climáticas imperantes en el momento en que se habría originado P. lentiscus eran de tipo tropical cálido, muy distintas a las mediterráneas actuales, por lo que muchos de los caracteres que presenta actualmente la especie pueden ser más un reflejo a las condiciones bajo las que evolucionó que a las condiciones actuales. Es en este sentido en el que se considera a esta especie como un anacronismo evolutivo. Para contestar a la pregunta de si el ser anacrónico significa poseer una estrategia inadecuada en las condiciones mediterráneas actuales, se ha realizado una revisión sobre la biología reproductiva de P. lentiscus. La conclusión principal es que el ciclo reproductivo de P. lentiscus está constituido por una amalgama de caracteres tropicales que le sirven no sólo para sobrevivir con éxito en el matorral mediterráneo, sino para colonizar los nuevos hábitats surgidos de la destrucción de éstePistacia lentiscus L. (Anacardiaceae) is a sclerophyllous shrub that is very common in the Mediterranean Basin. This species originated in the Oligocene under mild tropical conditions that were very different to the current mediterranean climate. For this reason, many of the plant characteristics should respond to the tropical -and not mediterranean-environmental pressures under it evolved. This is the fact why this species is considered to be an evolutionary anachronism. To answer the question if being anachronistic means to have a wrong strategy in the current Mediterranean conditions, a review of the reproductive biology of P. lentiscus has been carried out. The main conclusion is that the reproductive cycle of P. lentiscus is formed by a mixture of tropical characters that are useful not only to survive successfully in the Mediterranean shrublands but also to colonize new, disturbed, habitats

Resultados preliminares de um experimento, em execução desde setembro de 2000 no Campo Experimental de Pacajus, CE, para avaliar um sistema de policultivo com fruteiras, são relacionados e discutidos neste trabalho. Dez espécies foram plantadas em uma área de 1,2 ha, em covas alternadas e divergentes em relação às linhas laterais, sendo que cada planta de uma espécie foi circundada por plantas de outras espécies. Após 15 meses, as espécies bananeira, mamoeiro e goiabeira foram substituídas por cupuaçuzeiro, pupunheira e abacateiro, respectivamente. A não adaptação da bananeira pode ter como causa os efeitos danosos dos ventos e maior irradiação solar, devido ao maior espaçamento utilizado no sistema em relação ao cultivo comercial. A mangueira, o sapotizeiro, o cajueiro, a aceroleira e a gravioleira estão com bom desenvolvimento. E, com exceção da mangueira e do sapotizeiro, todas já estão em frutificação. Nos 34 meses de avaliação, verificou-se que a recomposição natural da flora entre as fileiras foi prejudicada pela carência de nutrientes químicos e matéria orgânica do solo, o que pode ter favorecido, também, o ataque de pragas e doenças.Preliminary results of an experiment carried out in the Experimental Field of Pacajus, CE, Brazil, established in September 2000, to evaluate intercropping systems of tropical fruit trees are discussed. Ten species were planted in 1.2 ha, in a way that each row had two species in alternate and divergent position in relation to the lateral lines, so that each plant of one species was surrounded by plants of different species. After 15 months banana, papaya, and guava species were replaced by cupuacu, peach palm, and avocado, respectively. Banana was bad adapted to the system and this could be caused by the harmful effects of wind and higher irradiation due large plant spacing utilized in relation to the commercial plantation. Mango, sapodilla, cashew tree, acerola, and soursop tree adapted well to the system. During the 34 month-period of evaluation the regrowth of the natural flora between rows has been impaired by the low soil fertility and organic matter which may also have favored pests and diseases attack.

Se evalúa como objetivo, el criterio de dosificación de nutrimentos para la fertirrigación, a partir de las curvas de materia seca, en base a la biomasa aérea total en las casas de cultivo protegido de referencia perteneciente al módulo Santana, de Ciego de Ávila, ya que aunque se ha demostrado que el fertirriego es una técnica exitosa, aún persisten problemas que son indispensables resolver, como lo es precisar la dosis de fertilizantes que debe utilizarse para incrementar la eficiencia de aprovechamiento de los nutrimentos y fomentar la rentabilidad de la producción sin deterioro de los recursos naturales. Se monitoreó, evaluó y se hicieron las correcciones pertinentes de la calidad del agua de riego y fertirriego, además de evaluar las propiedades agroquímicas para establecer un balance y precisar la cuantificación nutrimental a nivel del sistema. Se realizaron las curvas de velocidad de acumulación de biomasa en el tomate Charlestón por períodos de crecimiento vegetal, para verificar la eficiencia de la fertirrigación aplicada con los programas operativos rígidos, establecidos en la aplicación de fertilizantes de las casas de cultivo protegido, así como los cálculos de las normas de riego. La acumulación de la materia seca en función de la biomasa aérea total de la planta, se ajustó al modelo Bugarín, propuesto para tomate en condiciones de invernadero e hidroponía, cuya tendencia puede ajustarse de acuerdo a una función de una línea recta y=1,0346x-0,279, con coeficiente de determinación de 0,77. El comportamiento del cultivo definió que hubo un manejo aceptable en cuanto al aporte de fertilizantes por fertirriego, en el cual se asignó la cantidad de nutrientes necesaria para el desarrollo satisfactorio de la plantación según la planificación, aún cuando el aporte por el suelo es tan deficiente, lo cual no contribuyó al balance positivo, para cuantificar las cantidades que se requerían de cada portador. El criterio de las curvas de acumulación de biomasa foliar permitió definir la eficiencia del aporte de los fertilizantes en el fertirriego del tomate protegido, Charleston.

Lo anterior se presenta como una apuesta de formación ético-política orientada a interrumpir la permanencia de las ecolo - gías violentas que han caracterizado el devenir político latinoamericano en los dos últimos siglos.

The study was carried out in a 3 000m2 area of coastal Atlantic rain forest at Ilha do Mel island (25o30’’S 48o23’W), on 100 assorted trees separated into 2 meter-high strata starting from the ground. In each stratum all of the occurring epiphytic species were recorded. The sampled species were grouped into three categories: exclusive, preferential, and indifferent, according to their abundance in each strata, and selective, preferential and indifferent, according to abundance on the forophytes. Intermediate strata registered the highest diversity. Six species were considered exclusive to one or two strata, 15 were restricted to some strata and 5 presented a broad distribution. No epiphytic species showed uniform horizontal distribution on the area. The epiphyte richness in a host tree varied from zero to 30. Regarding to fidelity on host tree species, few selective or preferential, and mainly indifferent epiphyte species, were found. A total of 82 epiphyte species were sampled in the surveyed tree, and the Wittaker plot indicate a highly dominant assemblage. Rev. Biol. Trop. 57 (3): 749-759. Epub 2009 September 30.El estudio se realizó en un área 3 000 m2 de bosque atlántico húmedo en una isla brasileña, Ilha do Mel (25o30’’ S 48o23’ W). Seleccionamos 100 árboles de las 10 principales especies y las dividimos en estratos de dos metros a partir de la superficie del suelo. En cada estrato registramos todas las especies epífitas observadas. Las especies muestreadas fueron agrupadas en tres categorías: exclusivas, preferenciales, e indiferentes (según su abundancia en los estratos), y selectivas, preferenciales e indiferentes (según su abundancia en los árboles). Los estratos intermedios registraron las más altas diversidades. Seis especies fueron consideradas exclusivas a uno o dos estratos, 15 estuvieron limitadas a algunos estratos y 5 presentaron amplia distribución. Para ninguna especie epífita hubo distribución horizontal uniforme. La riqueza de las epífitas en un forofito varió de cero a 30 especies. Según la fidelidad de las epífitas en los árboles, registramos pocas especies selectivas o preferenciales y muchas indiferentes. En los 100 árboles examinados encontramos 82 especies de epífitas, y el diagrama del Wittaker indicó alta dominancia de unas pocas especies.

Recently, populations of flies have increased in numbers given the elevated levels of organic matter waste produced by anthropic activities and domestication of animals. Such increase represents a worldwide health concern, since flies can be vectors of human diseases. The great variety of feeding and developmental habits of flies of the family Sarcophagidae taking place on animal corpses, feces and decomposed organic matter make them potential vectors of pathogens. Herein, we evaluated the synanthropic index (SI), as well as other ecological aspects of this family, through simultaneous monthly samplings in three areas with different degrees of human disturbance (urban, rural and forest). Each area had four van Someren Rydon traps, each one with a different bait (i.e., human feces, chicken viscera, fish and decomposing onion). Traps were active during 48 hours each month, and specimen collection was made every 12 hours. A total of 7 446 Sarcophagidae individuals were collected (1 275 males and 6 171 females), belonging to 27 species and nine genera. Tricharaea (Sarcophagula) canuta (SI=+96.67), Oxysarcodexia taitensis (SI=+93.85), Peckia (Peckia) chrysostoma (SI=+90.00) and Tricharaea (Sarcophagula) occidua (SI=+88.76) exhibited the highest values of synanthropy index, revealing a strong preference for human settlements. The most abundant species were Oxysarcodexia conclausa (21.80%), Ravinia effrenata (18.67%), Oxysarcodexia bakeri (11.45%) and Oxysarcodexia taitensis (10.20%), all of which exhibited preference for urban environments. Additionally, we are reporting seven new records of Sarcophagid flies for Colombia: Oxysarcodexia angrensis, Oxysarcodexia bakeri, Oxysarcodexia diana, Oxysarcodexia similata, Oxysarcodexia timida, Peckia (Peckia) pexata and Titanogrypa (Cucullomyia) placida.
