In August 2001, the XVII Meeting of the Health Sector in Central America and the Dominican Republic (RESSCAD) was held in Managua, Nicaragua. At the meeting, a resolution was adopted in support of strengthening and furthering the Central American initiative for the Promotion of Food and Nutritional Security. This paper examines the conceptual framework behind the initiative, which was approved by the XIV Central American Presidents Summit Meeting (Guatemala City, Guatemala) and launched in 1994 at the regional, national, and municipal levels (Guacimo, Costa Rica, 1994). It focuses on the accomplishments attributable to this initiative, the challenges it has faced over 2001 and those it will be facing over the next biennium, and the measures taken or recommended so far in order to ensure its long-term success.

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted many aspects of personal and professional development, outlining different unprecedented behavioural changes among diverse age population, worldwide. In the context of the lockdown restrictions, the aim of the present study was to explore the extent to which emergency states and higher institutions closure affected academic engagement among studying youth. In this direction, data were collected from 227 undergraduate students (N=227) enrolled in different fields of study in public universities in Romania. The Utrecht Work Engagement Scale for Students (UWES-9S) (Schaufeli et al., 2006) was used to assess Romanian students’ academic involvement in the particular context of remote learning imposed by coronavirus outbreak. An additional open question was introduced in the present study, to analyse personal experiences and activities undertaken by students during the stay-at-home period. The main findings of our research were discussed in relation with students’ average degree of academic engagement, the psychometric properties assessment, the resilience stories and its effects on students’ mental health and academic involvement. Emphasis was given to a deeper understanding of students’ responsiveness and proactiveness concerning behavioural, cognitive, and emotional engagement in their remote academic learning and nonacademic life.

El trabajo agrícola estaba ligado a los ciclos climáticos y se establecía una relación recíproca entre el entorno y la cultura debido a la incipiente tecnología. Conocer cuál fue la relación que establecieron los padres jesuitas con el medio ambiente para lograr un equilibrio y mayor productividad de las haciendas que poseían en el valle de Cúcuta, cuáles fueron las estrategias y los mecanismos tecnológicos utilizados para el desarrollo de la agricultura y la ganadería, y en qué medida adaptaron costumbres observadas en la región, son los objetivos del presente estudio. El tema será analizado con una visión interdisciplinaria que integra aspectos de la Nueva Historia y la Ecología Cultural. Se aplica la metodología cualitativa en el análisis de la documentación histórica existente en los archivos de Colombia sobre la Compañía de Jesús y las relaciones geográficas.

Background: Confirmed cases of Middle East respiratory syndrome caused by coronavirus (MERS-CoV) were not found until the end of February 2019 in Indonesia. The spreading threat of MERS-CoV disease in Indonesia is still quite vast, mainly because of the amount of international travel from Indonesia to Saudi Arabia for the purpose of Hajj and Umrah, vacationing, working, or settling in the Arabian Peninsula. Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate the implementation of formal risk assessment (FRA) and MERS-CoV risk in Indonesia in 2018, having regard to threat, vulnerability, and capacity. Method: This study is a non-reactive observation study presented descriptively using the literature method and in-depth interviews with staff of the subdirectorat of Penyakit Infeksi Emerging Kementerian Kesehatan Republik. Decision-making for the threat category and vulnerability category is based on the highest threat index and vulnerability values, while the capacity category is based on the lowest capacity index value. Results: This study shows that there are three threat subcategories and two vulnerability subcategories that have high index scores and eight capacity subcategories that have low scores. Conclusion: The implementation of risk assessment for MERS-CoV with the FRA method as a whole has been maximally pursued. However, there are still shortcomings in the results of the research that need to be improved through further interventions to reduce the subcategory values that are high in the threat and vulnerability index and to increase the value of the low capacity index.

À partir du XVIe siècle cependant, ils deviennent des vecteurs de communication et permettent de relier toutes les parties du monde entre elles et notamment Rome, alors considérée comme le centre de la Chrétienté, aux nouvelles terres à évangéliser. Dans cette étude, l’espace maritime en tant que concept et réalité est interrogé afin de voir, dans un deuxième temps, quelles sont les caractéristiques de l’écriture des missionnaires jésuites sur les océans. Lutte contre les forces maléfiques, purification et conversion des hommes d’équipage et des espaces maritimes, intercessions prodigieuses et miracles sur les mers tourmentées vont alors apparaître comme les ressorts de l’écriture jésuite afin d’imposer l’Ordre sur les océans.
