Em um experimento, conduzido por 4 anos no município de Chapecó, SC, foi avaliado o efeito de doses (zero, 60, 120 e 240kg/ha) e fontes de N (esterco líquido de suínos [ELS], composto de esterco de suínos [CES], esterco de aves [EA] e nitrato de amônio [NA]) na produtividade de milho no sistema plantio direto. Após 4 anos foram coletadas amostras de solo para a realização de análises químicas nas camadas de zero a 5, 5 a 10, 10 a 20, 20 a 30, 30 a 40cm de profundidade. Os resultados mostraram que o fornecimento de N através do ELS apresentou eficiência similar ao NA, e ambos apresentaram maior eficiência que o CES e EA. A resposta ao N de NA e de ELS apresentou efeito quadrático, sendo a produtividade máxima de grãos obtida, respectivamente, com a aplicação anual de 226 e 246kg/ha de N. A resposta à aplicação de N de EA e de CES foi linear. Maiores alterações nas propriedades do solo foram verificadas com a aplicação de EA e CES, com acúmulo de P, K, Cu e Zn nas camadas superficiais do solo, principalmente nos primeiros 5cm. As propriedades químicas do solo nas camadas de 20 a 30 e 30 a 40cm não foram afetadas. Para uma mesma quantidade de N aplicada, o esterco sólido manteve o pH do solo próximo ao valor original, enquanto o NA acarretou sua redução.

A lo largo de las montañas de Sudamérica, los bosques de Polylepis y la comunidad de aves que albergan sobresalen como uno de los ecosistemas de mayor prioridad de conservación. Estos bosques forman uno de los límites arbóreos más altos del mundo y son centros de diversidad y de endemismo biológico. Sin embargo, sus diferentes características ecológicas y las presiones de los seres humanos los hacen cada vez más vulnerables a la degradación y a los futuros cambios climáticos. Realizamos una revisión del estado del conocimiento de las diversas especies de aves asociadas con Polylepis a fin de guiar los esfuerzos para su conservación. Varias publicaciones sugieren que la función de los ecosistemas de Polylepis como hábitat para las aves está influenciada por su distribución continental y por factores locales y de paisaje, incluyendo las actividades humanas y las perturbaciones. Identificamos 29 áreas de prioridad para la conservación de Polylepis a lo largo de toda su distribución, que en conjunto mantienen 44 especies de aves endémicas, amenazadas o con alto grado de asociación con los bosques de Polylepis. Según la lista de aves amenazadas de la IUCN, dos especies están categorizadas en estado crítico, 8 en peligro, 8 vulnerables y 9 como casi amenazadas. Además, 70% de estas especies (31) poseen rangos de distribución restringida, y son endémicas a un solo país, mientras que 52% (23) poseen un alto o mediano grado de asociación con los bosques de Polylepis. Las recomendaciones de diversos estudios coinciden en que aumentar la conectividad entre parches y la permeabilidad de la matriz, y reducir la erosión, la quema y la ganadería contribuirían a mejorar la conservación y la recuperación de los ecosistemas de Polylepis y de las aves que en ella habitan.

La población rural femenina ha sido vulnerable a los impactos de la desigualdad social y el conflicto armado. Por esta razón, ante condiciones de discriminación, pobreza y violencia, algunas mujeres rurales han encontrado alternativas de cohesión comunitaria a partir de la conservación ambiental, las cuales se han vuelto una forma de mitigar y hacerle frente a esas dificultades. Este artículo muestra los resultados de un estudio de caso llevado a cabo en Vergara, Cundinamarca (Colombia). El objetivo es analizar las acciones de participación comunitaria implementadas por los miembros de la vereda Llano Grande, con el propósito de identificar las potencialidades, dificultades y lecciones aprendidas en torno a la gobernanza ambiental y al empoderamiento comunitario. Se hizo uso de entrevistas a profundidad, encuestas semiestructuradas, observación participante y grupos focales, mediante un modelo de Investigación-Acción Participativa (IAP), para definir estrategias de fortalecimiento local, igualdad de género y gobernanza ambiental en un contexto rural de posconflicto. Se sostiene que la participación comunitaria ambiental ha sido un instrumento para el empoderamiento de las mujeres rurales en dicho contexto y, al mismo tiempo, contribuye positivamente a la consolidación de buenas prácticas de gobernanza ambiental en una perspectiva de género.

Aims: Climate-based indices exist for viticulture, particularly for modelling phenological events, but not for vine water status. In this work, climatic variables are linked to the temporal evolution of the water status of the vine Methods and Results: Within-season time-series of predawn leaf water potential from previous studies across 8 seasons in the south of France were collated. Meteorological data were also collected at each site. A stepwise linear regression model was developed to predict the mean predawn leaf water potential of a vineyard block at a given date from climatic variables and time. Variables selected were growing degree days, short-term humidity and temperature effects. Application of the stepwise model to an independent data set, collected at the other two research sites, produced a linear response but required a local calibration at each site. Conclusion: The analysis demonstrated that climatic variables can be used for predicting the temporal evolution of vine water stress in non-irrigated vineyards. Significance and impact of study: The modelling can assist with within-season crop management and future vineyard planning/development in non-irrigated regions. In irrigated vineyards the application is more restricted but it may be used to identify when to start irrigation.

Durante décadas, las investigaciones desarrolladas sobre la proliferación de Ulva en Bretaña han postulado la hipótesis de que los flujos de nitrógeno vertidos al mar por los cursos de agua en el mes de junio son los responsables del desarrollo de estas algas; y que por lo tanto su reducción durante la primavera constituye el principal medio de control. Los Programas de Acción implantados asumen esta hipótesis, así como los modelos que la integran. La drástica reducción de aportes de nitrógeno que se plantea, además de inalcanzable y probablemente ineficaz, parece poco consistente. Se revisan aquí los argumentos que cuestionan este postulado y se propone el desarrollo de nuevas investigaciones, a fin de obtener los suficientes datos fiables que permitan profundizar en la ecología de este fenómeno.

El actual paradigma ligado al auge de la ‘agricultura científica globalizada’ reorganiza y resignifica las relaciones entre producción primaria, agroindustria y territorio, además, reestructura los circuitos productivos históricamente tejidos en torno a las actividades emblemáticas a escala regional. En esta investigación se estudia el proceso de crisis y reorganización del circuito de la yerba-mate en la provincia de Misiones (Argentina) durante el periodo 1990-2014. En tal sentido, se desarrolla el análisis integral de los distintos factores y variables que han intervenido en dicho proceso: ‘desregulación’, variación del área sembrada, sobreproducción, caída de precios, concentración de tierras y del eslabón agroindustrial, crisis de campesinos y pequeños productores, modernización agrícola, integración vertical de la producción y nuevas instancias de regulación política del circuito.

La estructura trófica de las comunidades planctónicas de los lagos antárticos se caracteriza por su sencillez, estando funcionalmente dominada por microorganismos. En estas cadenas tróficas el zooplancton, cuando está presente, ocupa generalmente la posición de consumidores superiores. Estos sistemas constituyen un marco muy adecuado en el que evaluar ciertos aspectos de la ecología trófica y funcional. Nuestro propósito ha sido valorar la aplicabilidad de una serie de teorías ecológicas, relativas a las relaciones tróficas, al flujo de energía y a la relativa importancia de los factores tanto abióticos como bióticos como elementos que expliquen el funcionamiento de estos ecosistemas en zonas polares sometidas a un fuerte control físico. Estudios experimentales llevados a cabo en lagos de la Península Byers (Isla Livingston) por nuestro grupo de investigación han puesto de manifiesto como determinadas interacciones bióticas, como la depredación, podrían ejercer este efecto estructurador, a pesar del fuerte control físico que supuestamente aleja a estas comunidades del equilibrio. De nuestros resultados se deriva la existencia de cascadas tróficas en el plancton con potencialidad de extenderse en el bucle microbiano. Especialmente relevantes resultan aquellas interacciones derivadas de la actividad del zooplancton. En particular, la presencia de éstos parece inducir un incremento en las densidades de las poblaciones del picoplancton vía disminución de los organismos bacterívoros. De nuestras investigaciones se deriva también la capacidad de este zooplancton para acelerar el reciclado de nutrientes, la cual debe contribuir en parte a sostener la productividad del sistema. Estas observaciones han permitido bosquejar un modelo conceptual del funcionamiento de la red trófica pelágica.
