<text>Infection by the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) causes respiratory illness and has a high mortality rate (~35%). The requirement for the virus to be manipulated in a biosafety level three (BSL-3) facility has impeded development of urgently-needed antiviral agents. Here, we established anovel mouse model by inserting human dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (hDPP4) into the Rosa26 locus using CRISPR/Cas9, resulting in global expression of the transgene in a genetically stable mouse line. The mice were highly susceptible to infection by MERS-CoV clinical strain hCoV-EMC, which induced severe diffuse pulmonary disease in the animals, and could also be infected by an optimized pseudotyped MERS-CoV. Administration of the neutralizing monoclonal antibodies, H111-1 and m336, as well as a fusion inhibitor peptide, HR2P-M2, protected mice from challenge with authentic and pseudotyped MERS-CoV. These results confirmed that the hDPP4-knockin mouse is a novel model for studies of MERS-CoV pathogenesis and anti-MERS-CoV antiviral agents in BSL-3 and BSL-2facilities, respectively.</text>

The objective of the present study is to analyze the importance of fruit growing for the family farmers from the EDR (Rural Development Office) of Jales, specifically in three cities, Marinopolis, Santa Albertina and Santa Salete, concerning the maintenance of the families in the field as well as the generation of jobs. In order to collect data to elaborate this study, questionnaires were applied and interviews were done together with the producers from the micro-basins of the respective cities, particularly on the social, financial and productive policies. The fruit growing highlighted in the EDR in terms of Gross Value of Production. Among the fruits, the orange and the grape have presented the best results. Abstract The present work tries to understand the importance of the cooperation practiceamongst familiar rural workers in a region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul from theinternal and external socio-economical relations. From the analysis of internalrelations comes the comprehension of economic logic of the family of rural workers inproducing only the necessary for their self-support with adequate use of availablefamiliar labour. The external relations of the rural workers are comprised of severaltraditions, culture and symbolism which are present on social relations in the familyincluding the reciprocity relations and, at the same time, it is understood how andwhy the latter changes in rural workers integrated to the market and the agroindustrialcomplexes. Thus, this is the merchant integration of milk producers and theconfrontation with the oligopsonies of dairy products, which have the power to dictate the price of products. In order to balance this power, the producers organizethemselves into joint network trades in order to increase their bargain capabilities, better price and product conditions. The comprehension of the process oforganization in formal and informal exerted the efforts of this study, in order tounderstand how and why these cooperation networks amongst such producers andnot amongst others. Besides, it may be verified whether this organization givesopportunities to obtain a better socio-economical performance. The results led to twoconclusions: the cooperation networks formed amongst milk producers are generatedfrom the work and social relations of reciprocity, where the main concepts play animportant role on trust formation amongst them; these cooperation networks havegiven better results on the social and economical indicators.</text>

This paper presents the results for the familiar activity level of the agricultural agribusiness in the Brazilian economy for the period from 1995 to 2003. Using input-output models it was possible to estimate the importance of the Gross Domestic Product of the familiar agribusiness in the national economy. The results show that around 1/3 of the Brazilian agribusiness come from the agricultural production done by the familiar agriculture, it was also noticed that the recent development of the familiar agriculture and of its links has been very positive, suppressing, the growth rates found in the non-familiar segment.</text>
