Los cachalotes (Physeteroidea) son un grupo de cetáceos con una ecología restringida en la actualidad. Las tres especies actuales son el remanente de un grupo que alcanzó su máxima diversificacion durante el Mioceno, incluyendo cinco especies simpátricas descritas en la Formación Pisco, Ica-Arequipa, Perú. Entre estas se incluyen formas piscívoras, bénticas, así como carnívoros de tamaño medio e hipercarnívoros. Se reportan dos dientes aislados provenientes del Mioceno superior de las localidades de Sacaco y Sacaco sur, que corresponden con la morfología típica de Physeteridae. Esta morfología dentaria es similar a la de taxones presentes en el hemisferio norte como Orycterocetus o Aulophyseter del Mioceno medio. Debido a esto se presume que los restos corresponderían a physetéridos con hábitos piscívoros, que quizás poseyeron un desarrollo incipiente de la capacidad de succión. La presencia de este linaje indicaría que a fines del Mioceno los parientes de los modernos Physeter y Kogia compartieron el mar peruano con formas extintas, sin solapamiento de nichos debido a la morfología altamente derivada de cada grupo. Este nuevo registro expande la comunidad de cetáceos fósiles de Sacaco, que se vio favorecida por la gran diversidad de ambientes poco profundos que dominaron el litoral peruano hasta el establecimiento final del Sistema Humboldt.

The dynamics of the spreading of the COVID-19 virus has similar features to turbulent flow, chaotic maps, and other non-linear systems: a small seed grows exponentially and eventually saturates. Like in the percolation model, the virus is most dangerous if the probability of transmission (or the bond probability p in the percolation model) is high. This suggests a relation with the population density, ρs, which must be higher than a certain value (ρs > 1,000 persons/km2). A “seed' implanted in such populations grows vigorously and affects nearby places at distance x. Thus, the spreading is governed by the ratio ρ = ρs/x. Assuming a power law dependence τ of the number of positives to the virus N+ from ρ, we find τ = 0.55, 0.75, and 0.96 for South Korea, Italy, and China, respectively.

Se realizó una modelación con el programa WEAP para determinar el impacto de los escenarios de cambio climático RCP 4.5 y 8.5 en los recursos hídricos en el periodo 2015- 2030 en el Valle de Galeana, Nuevo León. Se desarrollaron dos escenarios de adaptación: el primero considera una reducción en la demanda hídrica para uso agrícola por cambio de sistemas de riego gradual; el segundo contempla un plan hídrico integral para mejorar la capacidad de infiltración de la zona de recarga mediante programas de reforestación y recuperación de suelos. Los resultados muestran que la situación del acuífero con escenarios de cambio climático y con el uso actual del agua es crítica, pues en ambos escenarios se tendrían afectaciones importantes en el acuífero a partir de 2015, ocurriendo un mínima recarga hacia el acuífero de 0.96 y 1.5% con respecto a su capacidad total durante los meses de lluvia típicos (agosto y septiembre, respectivamente). Considerando el escenario de adaptación de cambio en sistemas de riego, se espera una ligera recuperación a partir del año 2023, alcanzando un máximo de recarga de 3.11 Mm3 en temporada de lluvia. Los resultados del plan hídrico integral, si bien no mantienen una recarga constante y positiva, sí muestran un volumen de recuperación de 27 Mm3 , lo que representa 18.75% de la capacidad máxima de almacenamiento en el sistema; sin embargo, éste disminuye para el mes de diciembre, por lo que no es posible basar el desarrollo de la agricultura en las comunidades de la región con prácticas de alto consumo de agua.

El seguimiento de las características del bosque es relevante en el contexto de cambio climático. En este estudio, se ha evaluado la estructura vertical y horizontal, así como las reservas de carbono de un parche boscoso de 28 ha en sucesión temprana en el Caribe de Costa Rica. Esta evaluación se ha hecho con base en el uso de la tierra y en una hipótesis de homogeneidad forestal. Los resultados indicaron que el promedio del DAP, la altura de los árboles y la apertura del dosel fueron 1.15 m, 20.83 m y 18.5%, respectivamente. De las seis variables estudiadas, el DAP y la apertura de dosel fueron las más importantes para determinar la estructura forestal y los resultados mostraron alta homogeneidad en el bosque. Un cálculo de la biomasa sobre el suelo determinó que la finca estudiada tiene entre 100-130 T por hectárea para un total de 1372-1795 T de carbono total sobre el bosque. Este estudio representó el primer acercamiento a la investigación forestal de la estación experimental bajo análisis y ha sido importante para determinar la línea base de información de esta. Se espera que futuros estudios puedan utilizar la información de la presente investigación para darle seguimiento a la progresión boscosa en ese sitio.

El presente trabajo examina la lectura como praxis político-cultural, en tanto condición de la justicia educativa y elemento constitutivo de la ciudadanía emancipatoria. La opción analítica que se presenta intenta, por un lado, reflexionar críticamente sobre las contrariedades intelectuales a las que se adscriben las tendencias en educación lectora y la construcción de justicia educativa y; por otro lado, demostrar las formas de cristalización de un campo sustentado en políticas difusas, de tal modo que un aspecto crucial radica en exponer la ambigüedad del universo conceptual empleado en este campo, cuyas repercusiones ofrecen falsas salidas. El estudio de la lectura como práctica cultural y social reclama una ecología de saberes, esto es, la creación de sistemas intelectuales que ofrezcan la posibilidad de garantizar alternativas viables para redistribuir el derecho a la educación y a la lectura, con justicia y, ante todo, acorde con lo que cada persona y grupo social requiere. Para promover cualquier tipo de transformación en la forma de redistribuir derechos, se observa la necesidad de repolitizar la lectura como condición democrática. De tal forma que en las políticas públicas, en vez de construir condiciones de justicia, se diversifican los patrones de discriminación institucional. El concepto de ciudadanía lectora reafirma la necesidad de consolidar una representación cultural alternativa, esto es, proveer de instrumentos que permitan agilizar una discusión cultural politizada sobre aquello que vamos a entender como práctica lectora y sistemas de apropiación de esta en el mundo contemporáneo.

El presente trabajo trata sobre la importancia de lo ecológico en la obra de Dulce María Loynaz. Es un abordaje de la poesía caribeña como búsqueda de la voz propia y como expresión de una cultura que se debate entre el diálogo y la tensión: tanto entre procesos y tradiciones literarias (por ejemplo el lirismo releído como ecolirismo), cuanto entre procesos civilizatorios e históricos (el desarrollo del Primer Mundo como causa del deterioro ambiental, no sólo del Tercer Mundo, sino global). Además, se señala de qué modo, en Loynaz (en Juegos de aguas. Versos del agua y del amor (1947), obra en la que se centralizó el análisis) lo ecológico deviene ontológico. La naturaleza no es simplemente marco contextual, escenario que presta clima a lo subjetivo, sino que, poema a poema, la naturaleza va constituyéndose en principio metafísico, fundante de la realidad. El agua es, para la poeta, clave de una realidad no escindida (especialmente por lo tecnológico). Capaz de asumir todas las formas y estados de lo material y lo inmaterial, pasa a ser, por eso, multiplicidad y totalidad, y en tal plano no es posible prescindir, en la interpretación (más que de esta poesía: de esta poética) de las conocidas consideraciones que, en varias de sus obras, expone M. Heidegger. Finalmente—y ya en el plano de una redefinición de los géneros literarios—se propone a la poesía como un auténtico modelo de ecología lingüística.

ABSTRACT: The African snail Achatina fulica (Bowdich, 1822), originally from Africa, was introduced in Brazil and since then became an important pest, because of its resistance to abiotic conditions, hermaphroditism, polyphagia and absence of natural enemies. Considered as one of the 100 worst pests in the world, with the record of establishment in almost all Brazilian states, it causes sanitary, ecological and economic losses. In this context, the objective of this study was to determine the population dynamics and food preference of the giant snail in three areas of lettuce, located in Alagoas, Brazil. There was no statistical difference between food preference tests with and without choice among the varieties offered. To the fluctuation of the population of A. fulica, the Pearson correlation coefficients were negative only for temperature, and there was no correlation with precipitation and relative humidity.

As mudas, do tipo filhote, foram plantadas no mês de junho, em um Latossolo Vermelho Amarelo, que recebeu 0, 30 e 60t/ha de restos de abacaxizeiro, aplicados superficialmente e incorporados a 10cm de profundidade, com e sem a adição do biofertilizante-Agrobio10% (v/v). Foram coletadas amostras a 05 cm de profundidade aos 90, 210, 330 e 450 dias após a aplicação dos resíduos. Identificou-se, durante os 15 meses de avaliações, o predomínio de Acari e Collembola. A maior densidade de animais foi observada na primeira amostragem, aos 90 dias após a adição dos restos. No entanto, diferenças na abundância da fauna de solo só foram observadas, 330 dias após a adição dos resíduos.This study was conducted under field conditions, in order to determine the effect of pineapple crop (Ananas comosus L.) residues on the edaphic arthropod fauna. Slips were planted in June, in Red-Yellow Latossol , with crop residues in amounts of 0, 30 and 60 t/ha, placed on the surface or tilled under 10cm, with and without 10% (v/v) Agrobio biofertilizer applied along with the residues and sprayed monthly at 3% (v/v) two months after planting. Soil samples were collected from the top 5.0 cm of soil at 90, 210, 330 and 450 days after the application of residues. Over 15 months, the predominance of Acari and Collembolan was observed. The highest density of animals was observed in the first sample, at 90 days after the addition of residues. Nevertheless, differences in soil fauna abundance between treatments were not detected until 330 days after soil management with crop residues.
