To identify a functional in vivo model, herein we used germ-free (GF) mice to test the effectiveness of textiles as filtration material and droplet barriers to complement available in vitro-based knowledge. Herein, we report a study conducted in vivo with bacteria-carrying microdroplets to determine to what extent household textiles prevent contamination of GF mice in their environment. Using a recently validated spray-simulation method (mimicking a sneeze), herein we first determined that combed-cotton textiles used as two-layer-barriers covering the mouse cages prevented the contamination of all GF animals when sprayed 10–20 bacterial-droplet units/cm2. In additional to exposure trials, the model showed that GF mice were again protected by the combed-cotton textile after the acute exposure to 10 times more droplets (20 “spray-sneezes”, ~200 bacterial-droplet units/cm2). Overall, two-layer combed-cotton protected 100% of the GF mice from bacteria-carrying droplets (n = 20 exposure-events), which was significantly superior compared to 100% mouse contamination without textile coverage or when 95% partly covered (n = 18, Fisher-exact, p &lt; 0.0001). Of relevance is that two different densities of cotton were equally effective (100%) in preventing contamination regardless of density (120–vs. 200 g/m2; T-test, p = 0.0028), suggesting that similar density materials could prevent droplet contamination. As a practical message, we conducted a speech trial (counting numbers, 1–100) with/without the protection of the same cotton textile used as face cover. The trial illustrated that contamination of surfaces occurs at a rate of &gt;2–6 bacteria-carrying saliva-droplets per word (2.6 droplets/cm2, 30 cm) when speaking at 60–70 decibels and that cotton face covers fully prevent bacterial surface contamination. Quando comparada com o cenário sem as estradas, a inserção de estradas rurais como uso específico da terra (cenário calibrado) resultou em aumento de 6,3% na vazão e de 8,8% nos sedimentos transportados na bacia do Ribeirão Concórdia. However, such a crisis generated the need for a new culture, and consequently a new theological mentality, as a cultural driver that made it possible to transform the Asclepiad Sanctuary of Kos into the first hospital in the West to integrate spirituality and science as ways to promote the healing of culture in order to achieve the ideal of health. The adopted method was a semantic analysis of the classic texts that help contextualize the Hippocratic view of the epidemic, spirituality, and health, and how these questions were received by Christianity at the time. The reception of this experience by Christianity, despite suffering some tension, also expands this Greek ideal and constitutes a true heritage of ancient wisdom that can be revisited in the time of the new pandemic, COVID-19. However, we have a number of promising drugs at our disposal, which may be potential candidates in COVID-19 prevention. The main aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of COVID-19 among healthy volunteers using nasal INF-γ as a preventive measure. Methods and Results: In this observational prospective study, we used INF-γ in a dosage form for intranasal administration to identify a prophylactic effect in volunteers at high risk of getting COVID-19 - medical workers and personnel working in the “red zone.” Prophylactic efficacy was evaluated by the incidence of COVID-19 among volunteers when using the study drug (the study group) in comparison with the control group. The mean score on the WHO clinical improvement scale in the two groups was also analyzed. For each participant in the study, initial demographic and epidemiological data were collected: age, gender, the average frequency of ARVI (per year), as well as information on professional activities (work schedule and the number of patients with whom the participant contacts every day). Findings showed that most participants previously had about 45%-48% cases of ARD per year. As a result, we saw good tolerance to COVID-19: 98% and 86% of subjects of both groups did not get sick during the period of observation, although the first group showed statistically significant (P=0.0019) better results in disease prevalence. In addition, the comparative analysis demonstrated 0.02 and 0.14 scores of the WHO clinical improvement scale in the study group and control group, respectively (P=0.0255). None of the subjects had adverse events. Conclusion: This study concluded that there is a potential positive preventive effect of nasal INF-γ against ARVI including COVID-19 in healthy volunteers. INF-γ use was safe and well tolerated. This caused a series of interrelated consequences that not only prevent or slow down the spread of disease, but also impact the medical systems’ capability to treat the patients and help their recovery. In particular, steeply growing demand for medical safety goods cannot be satisfied by regular suppliers due to the shortage of raw materials originating from other countries or remotely located national sources, under conditions of quarantined manpower. The current context inevitably brings back memories (and records!) of the situation 80 years ago, when WWII necessitated major effort directed at the rapid build-up of low-cost mass production to satisfy all aspects of war-time need. In the present short report we document a successful case of fast mass-production of light transparent medical safety face shields (thousands per day) realized in Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) at Fablab and Machine Shop Shared Facility (Skoltech FabLab). The demand for safety face shields by tens of hospitals in Moscow and other cities rapidly ramped up due to the need to protect medical staff during patient collection and transportation to hospitals, and within both the infected (“red”) and uninfected (“green”) zones. Materials selection for sterilizable transparent materials was conducted based on the analysis of merit indices, namely, minimal weight at given stiffness and minimal cost at given stiffness. Due to the need for permanent wear, design was motivated by low weight and comfortable head fixation, along with high production efficiency. The selection of minimal tooling in University fabrication workshops and the use of distributed volunteer labor are discussed.
