<text>This paper aims to present some of the results of the research academic master which examined a series of nine years of activities of the Forum of Family Farming of the Southern Region of Rio Grande do Sul (2004-2012), a period in which integrated representatives of various maroon communities located in southern Brazil. We sought to identify the elements that made possible the approximation of the communities to the Forum, this with more than a decade of existence at the time of entry of the representatives of the first maroon communities and the resulting impact of that involvement. The survey results indicate that the entry of the first communities to the Forum was not automatic, as opposed to being influenced by political-institutional context, the action of social mediators and the mobilization of resources.</text>
