El objetivo del trabajo fue evaluar el efecto de distintos usos del suelo (por ejemplo, agropecuario extensivo, agropecuario intensivo, agricultura urbana y periurbana, áreas verdes) sobre los SE y su relación con 1) la cantidad de habitantes y 2) el nivel de urbanización. Los indicadores evaluados fueron SE/cantidad de habitantes (SE/HAB) y SE/superficie urbanizada (SE/URB). Asimismo, se evaluó el cambio neto ambiental (positivo o negativo) de estas relaciones mediante matrices. SE/HAB y SE/URB presentaron diferencias entre usos del suelo tanto a nivel urbano como periurbano. La matriz de impacto ambiental demostró que la RMBA se encuentra en un nivel negativo. Ambos indicadores proporcionaron una nueva visión para la planificación del paisaje urbano y la toma de decisiones.
