Além disso, faz-se uma revisão sobre os conceitos de agricultura familiar e suas evoluções. Nesse sentido, desenvolve-se uma pesquisa sobre qual é a racionalidade do conceito de desenvolvimento existente no Pronaf. O artigo mostra que, apesar da origem e dos objetivos iniciais do Programa terem forte influência de uma racionalidade funcionalista, pautada pelos objetivos do capital, há também outras racionalidades na relação entre os agricultores familiares e o Pronaf, bem como no conceito de agricultura familiar.
