O método de investigação consistiu de pesquisa bibliográfica associada às entrevistas semiestruturadas com atores estratégicos do processo. Como principais resultados destaca-se que as cooperativas de leite surgiram em meados dos anos 1990 como uma forma de fortalecimento da agricultura familiar no mercado do leite, em franca expansão no período. No seu apogeu, em 2009 havia 27 cooperativas atuando na região Sudoeste do Paraná, número reduzido para 11 em 2016. Entre as explicações para a crise estão fatores relacionados à organização (planejamento e gestão) associado à concorrência com grandes empresas, o que resultou em dificuldades de fidelização dos associados.
