Usando diarios de consumo y producción, se registró información sobre ingresos diarios de 23 hogares, en dos comunidades ribereñas de la Amazonia colombiana.  Mediante la aplicación de métodos cuantitativos se encontró que el 78% de los ingresos familiares dependen del aprovechamiento de los recursos naturales, el 24 % se deriva de la pesca artesanal, exclusivamente, y el 81% del valor de la ingesta de proteína la constituye el consumo de pescado. Los resultados obtenidos dan cuenta de la importancia social y económica de los ecosistemas pesqueros, y visibilizan la necesidad de implementar acciones de conservación y gestión ambiental y pesquera para garantizar la oferta natural del recurso, y por esta vía el sustento, la seguridad alimentaria y el bienestar de las comunidades ribereñas.
