A região conta com pequenas propriedades agrícolas que desenvolvem criações diversificadas e a piscicultura é uma delas. A tlápia já se consolidou como o principal produto pesqueiro/aquícola no Brasil, sendo muitas vezes cultivada em tanques-rede (TR) e viveiros escavados. Nesse sentdo, um projeto pioneiro do cultvo de tilápias em TR foi iniciado em 2011 com a implantação de 48 unidades de TR no lago da usina hidroelétrica de Itá, município de Concórdia, SC. Esses TR possuem um volume de 6m3 e 18m3 cada unidade e hoje o projeto possui um total de 168 TR com uma produção total de tlápia (média de 600g) estimada em 170t por safra para o ano de 2017. Abstract – The west region of Santa Catarina is well recognized for its potential agriculture, livestock and aquaculture production mainly practiced by family-farming small producers. In this region, fish farming has grown increasingly mainly due to its favorable conditions for tilapiculture often grown in ponds and recently in a cage. In this sense, a pioneer project of tilapia cultivation in cages (volume 6m3 and 18m3 each tank) has been settled in the lake of Itá hydroelectric located surrounding Concórdia, SC.
