Abstract

Some projects such as Dusty relief/B‐mu (2002) by François Roche demonstrate how complex buildings, which distance themselves from the mechanicist models in order to refer themselves to new paradigms, can be better understood and interpreted thanks to a perceptive analysis.
This analysis brings the architectural project closer to matters such as man’s psychological relationship to Architecture, the fear of space, and the pathologies linked to perception and modern neuroses.
In this case, aside from the repercussions that the dust facade could have within the realm of urban ecology, it is interesting to analyze some of the aspects related to the dichotomy between external form and internal volumes for which François Roche cites Adolf Loos’ raumplan as a reference, but that provides additional motives for reflection regarding perception.
This article tries to analyze how François Roche designs his buildings paying extreme attention to the dichotomy between interior/visual and exterior/tactile, developing a new relationship
with the project site as a result. Roche self‐imposes a limitation to the sense of sight when he designs the exterior facade of the B‐mu, in favor of the haptic dimension of the project. He does this by enveloping the most familiar architectural domains with an abstract and textile interface.

Key words

building, perception, environment, housing, limit
</text>
