Contreras Description An account of the resource La aplicación de los Sistemas deInformación Geográfica (SIG) y las técnicas de Percepción Remota (PR) han sido ampliamente investigadas como método para identificar y evaluar el cultivo de caña de azúcar. El objetivo del presente estudio fue estimar y mapear el área bajo el cultivo de caña y evaluar su estado de salud mediante el algoritmo NDVI (Índice Normalizado de Vegetación), derivado del procesamiento e interpretación de imágenes Landsat-7/ETM+. Los resultados mostraron un NDVI en el rango de -0.3 a 0.3, que ejemplifica un estado de vigor del cultivo de caña de pobre a moderado debido al estrés. Solamente el 7.98% del total se considera en niveles aceptables. El Índice Normalizado de Vegetación fue un método útil en la identificación y evaluación del cultivo de caña. La agroindustria de la caña de azúcar de la Huasteca puede incrementar su productividad en el futuro mediante el uso de nuevos sistemas de manejo del cultivo y el ambiente para optimizar recursos e incrementar ganancias.
