En este estudio se diseño y utilizó un instrumento de medición de acuerdo al modelo anteriormente mencionado adaptando las variables para el contexto de nuestro estudio. Es necesario mencionar que el modelo del IMD se utilizó para medir la competitividad de los países y para esta investigación se está generando un instrumento nuevo considerando el entorno de la investigación que son las empresas agroindustriales del limón mexicano en Colima. Esta investigación se orientó a Mipymes de tipo agroindustrial del limón. Posteriormente a través de análisis estadístico se determinó el nivel de competitividad de las mismas y qué variables o criterios son los que influyen significativamente en la competitividad.
