A pesquisa combinou levantamento documental, especialmente relacionado às leis de proteção da infância, e entrevistas dirigidas para dezesseis agricultores familiares de Itapuranga – Goiás, Brasil, com filhos de idade entre 6 e 14 anos. As leis de proteção à infância passaram a categorizar como trabalho infantil certas atividades executadas por crianças em unidades de produção familiar, por considerá-las prejudiciais à saúde. A intervenção do poder público, por meio de leis e políticas públicas, desencadeia mudanças nas formas de socialização e de transmissão dos saberes-fazeres às crianças, reduzindo a importância educativa dos pais.
