              <text>Ponto de convergência de povos distintos como os índios Tupinambás e os escravos africanos da Nigéria, Benin, Angola e Congo, o Parque de São Bartolomeu resiste ao longo dos séculos ao crescimento desordenado da cidade do Salvador. A beleza especial do lugar parece ter exercido um fascínio e um poder de persuasão irresistível nos índios Tupinambás, que aqui fincaram raízes e fundaram uma grande aldeia, renunciando assim aos seus hábitos nômades. Também abrigou escravos fugitivos que aqui encontraram proteção e refúgio, organizando-se por volta do ano de 1826 no chamado Quilombo do Urubu. No presente trabalho discute-se a importância histórica e sagrada do Parque para os praticantes do candomblé e o sincretismo religioso resultante do encontro das tradições indígenas e africanas. Em muitos dos terreiros de candomblé, localizados nas cercanias do Parque, as divindades indígenas (caboclos) são cultuadas lado a lado com as africanas (orixás). Entrevistas realizadas com os praticantes do candomblé, demonstram que os descendentes dos Tupinambás e dos escravos africanos se afirmaram como principais usuários do Parque de São Bartolomeu.</text>
