A pesquisa foi realizada no Laboratório de Fitossanidade da Epagri/Centro de Pesquisa para Agricultura Familiar – Cepaf –, em Chapecó, SC. A sala de criação foi mantida com temperatura de 25 ± 2oC, umidade relativa de 60 ± 10% e fotofase de 14 horas. Para tanto, foram confeccionadas gaiolas especiais para acompanhamento da fase adulta e larval do inseto. Verificou-se que a metodologia de criação foi satisfatória e segura para manipulação em laboratório. Durante o desenvolvimento larval a lagarta apresentou seis ínstares e o ciclo biológico (ovo-adulto) foi de 139,5 dias.
