A presença de diferentes grupos morfológicos de grãos e os diferentes valores de uso permitem caracterizar a região como detentora de uma elevada diversidade de variedades locais de arroz de sequeiro, que são conservadas primordialmente devido à tradição culinária das famílias mantenedoras. In the Far Western Santa Catarina State (FWSC), in Southern Brazil, upland rice is produced by family farming from local seeds, which are conserved by generations of farmers. Based on interviews with rural families from Anchieta and Guaraciaba municipalities, the landraces produced in the region, their origins, the time of conservation, the purpose of production, the characteristics of grains and the values of use and preferences were identified.
