Principalmente son cultivos hortícolas, los que con mayor frecuencia se pueden encontrar en las zonas densamente pobladas.  El objetivo de este estudio, es caracterizar económica, productiva y comercialmente un grupo de empresas dedicadas a la agricultura urbana, así como definir el empleo que ellas originan en la ciudad de Valdivia. Para poder realizar una investigación primero se aplicó el método 'Snowball' para identificar a los agricultores urbanos. Se identificó un total de 22 microempresas que cumplían con los requisitos planteados en esta investigación. Se constató que la agricultura urbana es una fuente importante de empleo permanente en la ciudad de Valdivia, además de ofrecer trabajo temporal en la época estival.
